Pregnancy Food to Avoid: Eating the right food is crucial for the baby's well-being. Here's a complete list of what foods to avoid during pregnancy. Read to know more.

Pregnancy is one of the most exciting moment of a woman’s life. Though it is filled with happiness and joy it is also surrounded with confusion, doubts, myths and anxiety. One of such common doubt is what should a pregnant woman avoid during pregnancy which can be harmful to her baby. Through this blog I will try to solve your queries so that you can enjoy a stress free pregnancy.

1. HIGH MERCURY FISH

Mercury can be harmful to your baby. Hence fishes like Tuna, Mackerel, Swordfish, Marlin should be eliminated from your diet during pregnancy. But fish is an amazing source of omega 3 fatty acids, proteins and other nutrients. Hence you can have low mercury fishes like Shrimp, Salmon, Catfish and Cod but in moderation.

2. RAW FISH

Eating raw fish or raw shellfish increases the risk of contamination to your fetus. Hence it means NO SUSHI for 9 months.

3. RAW EGGS

Raw eggs also have risk of harmful bacteria which is not healthy for your baby. So you have to sacrifice poached egg, egg benedict and some homemade salad dressings.

4. RAW MEAT

Raw meat can contain salmonella, E. coli, Listeria and other harmful bacteria. Thus make sure your meat is properly cooked.

5. CAFFEINE

I myself am a coffee lover. But caffeine during pregnancy is a controversial topic. How much is too much? Thankfully you don’t have to eliminated all caffeine from your diet. According to studies one can have 200mg/day safely…
Also chocolates contain caffeine so refrain from overeating it.

6. ALCOHOL

Though studies say a glass of wine will do no harm to the baby but why take risk. Its just 9 months, so better to completely avoid alcohol as it can lead to fetal alcohol syndrome.

7. SUGARY FOOD

Whether you are pregnant or not , a low sugar diet is always healthy. Eating a lot of refined sugar can lead to excessive weight gain which can further complicate pregnancy with gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia.

8. CANNED FOODS

Canned foods are bad not only because they are highly processed and contain large amount of salt, they also contain BPA- a chemical used for linning of the can which can cause birth defects.

9. UNHEALTHY FAT

Basically stop running to fast food restaurant everytime you have cravings. These foods have unhealthy saturated fat and are also old meals served after repeated heating. So say NO to burgers and buffets.
You can have healthy fat like olive oil,avocados and even dark chocolates..:-)

10. PAPAYA

Papaya contains papain which causes uterine contraction and can lead to miscarriage and thus should be avoided in pregnancy.

11. PINEAPPLE

I know everyone loves pineapple
But pineapple contains bromelain which causes premature labour and thus not good during pregnancy.
