Overview
A case report from Indira IVF describes a woman whose IVF cycle produced identical twins inside the uterus and a third, ectopic pregnancy at the corner of the uterus. Keyhole surgery at 6 to 7 weeks removed the ectopic pregnancy, and the twins were delivered healthy at 36 weeks.

Occasionally, one embryo implants outside the uterus while another grows normally inside it. This is called a heterotopic pregnancy, and it is far more likely after IVF than after natural conception. It can be dangerous for the mother if it goes unnoticed. This report describes a rarer version, in which an ectopic pregnancy appeared alongside identical twins, and how it was found and treated in time.
2 embryos transferred, yet 3 pregnancies developed | 6 to 7 weeks gestation at diagnosis and surgery | 36 weeks gestation at cesarean delivery | 2 boys 2.2 kg and 2 kg, both healthy |
