Step by Step- Embryo Transfer

The IVF procedure culminates with embryo transfer. It is very important to make sure that the procedure is carried out with utmost care and sincerity. There are certain steps that are followed by the IVF doctor to complete this procedure. Besides the procedure followed by the doctor, the patient and family is also responsible to be cautious and patiently follow the instructions given by the doctor.

The embryo transfer is done with the aid and guidance of ultrasound. Ultrasound makes the procedure smoother and hence enhances the possibility of successful embryo transfer by lowering the chances of technical faults that occur due to unguided procedure being carried out.

Mentioned below are the steps followed in the embryo transfer:

Step 1: The woman undergoing IVF treatment is injected with medicines that help in the development of eggs in the ovarian follicles.

Step 2: When the follicles mature, the eggs developed through medicines in the ovaries are removed.

Step 3: The removed eggs are then fused with the sperms.

Step 4: Then, on the next day, fertilization is checked.

Step 5: Good quality embryo(s) is then moved to the uterine cavity with the guidance of ultrasound.

This procedure isn’t as simple as it seems in its few steps. It is very crucial to follow each and every minor seeming step also very carefully to avoid any kind of mishap. Also, right after the implantation of embryo in the uterine cavity, the pregnancy is not checked. One has to wait for 2 weeks. This duration is very difficult for any couple to deal with, as it is full of anxiety, but one has to be calm and relaxed and hope for the positive outcome.
