Egg Freezing is about planning for the future.
All about Oocyte Cryopreservation-
It is based on the simple awareness that your reproductive potential can be kept protected for the future so that you can have a child whenever you are ready for it.
When is the right time to freeze your eggs?
Your eggs are best in quality and quantity when you are younger than 35 years. This progressively reduces as your age increases. Having a child at an advanced age could pose the future child at risk of genetic and chromosomal abnormalities.
Know your right time-
Egg freezing prevents the risk of genetic & chromosomal abnormalities by allowing you to freeze your eggs at the right time (younger age) to help you have a child at your right time (when you are ready).
How does Oocyte Cryopreservation work?
Once you have frozen your eggs with us, whenever you decide to have a child with your partner, these eggs are thawed and combined with the sperm of your partner in a lab. The resultant embryo is then implanted back into your uterus.
To further protect your unborn child, screening tests are done to ensure the embryos are checked for genetic and chromosomal abnormalities safeguarding your future and that of your future child.
At Indira IVF, it is all about ensuring that your chances of having a healthy child at the time when you want it, is met.
Egg Freezing Technology
We leverage the use of the latest technologies to improve pregnancy rates. Genetic testing of parents/couples for common genetic diseases (WES – Whole Exome Sequencing) and for embryos (NIPGT/ PGT) and using the ones that pass our high standards for Embryo Transfer are our proven ways to reduce risks. Our centers use advanced technologies and tests for implantation ERA (Endometrial Receptivity Analysis) which reduces the risk of miscarriage and complications during pregnancy. We provide quality and assurance with use of technologies like RI witness, Closed Working Chamber which replicates the natural environment.
We have embarked on QAI Accreditation of our centres- a step towards the assurance of ethical and transparent procedures.
Egg Freezing Process
It all starts with an initial consultation at any of our 90+ centers of your choice. We discuss your life goals and expectations from the process and have a conversation on what the process is all about in detail. We also do an ultrasound and some basic blood tests to determine your fertility levels.
How important is Initial consultation?
This initial consultation is important as it sets the context for what to expect. Your age, family history of ovarian failure, early menopause, cancer or any other conditions (if any) along with the results of your blood tests such as antral follicle count and/or anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) measurements which help determine your ovaries ‘ capacity to produce eggs capable of resulting in a successful pregnancy (also called as ovarian reserve) are taken into consideration.
This also helps determine how many eggs will need to be frozen and how many cycles of egg freezing will be required to achieve that. After the initial consultation and once you finally decide to go ahead with freezing your eggs, our experts will provide you with training for the same.
Egg freezing involves stimulation of your ovaries with drugs to produce a good number of eggs for retrieval. Our experts will train you to administer these hormonal injections yourself. These are easy to administer injections and are quite safe with the instructions given.
You will be regularly monitored during this period to see how your ovaries respond to these injections.
Once your ovaries have enough eggs to be retrieved, you will undergo a minor procedure of not more than 15 minutes under mild sedation to remove the follicular fluid in your ovaries that contain the eggs.
This is a non-interventional procedure using a needle through your vaginal wall which means there will be no cuts or wounds made to your skin. Most people who undergo egg freezing may need to miss not more than a day at work.
Once your eggs are removed, they are incubated to allow them to mature and the mature eggs are then frozen via a process called vitrification. This new technology has documented evidence of increasing the survival rates of your eggs (oocytes) when they are thawed before combining with a sperm. The survival rates may be as high as 90 to 97 %*. With increased pregnancy rates as evidenced by the use of this technology, many medical associations are now recommending the use of the same.
Once your eggs have been successfully frozen, they will be cryopreserved at the facilities available at our centers ready to be used whenever you tell us to.
Congratulations! You have now officially stopped the biological clock!
International standards of success rates such as oocyte survival after vitrification and thawing are between 90%–97%; fertilization rates are between 71%–79%, implantation rates are 17%–41%, and clinical pregnancy rates per transfer range from 36%–61%.
At Indira IVF, we enable these international standards of success rates. (Ref: Fertil Steril 2013; 99:37–43)

Why is egg freezing important?
Egg freezing at Indira IVF is an option for your today to help you have a child when you are truly ready for it sometime in the future. Freezing your eggs at a younger age when the egg quality and number is high helps you to have a child with your partner even after the age of 35.
Is Egg Freezing right for you?
Egg freezing is right for anyone who wants to start a family but just not now. If you want a child sometime in the future when you are truly ready for motherhood, irrespective of your income levels, whether you are married or not or who you want your life partner to be, egg freezing may just be right for you. And the best time to do it is in your late 20’s or early 30’s.
What type of medications will be given for the egg retrieval?
The Egg freezing process requires a injections that stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs to be taken over a period of 2 weeks. This includes Human Menopausal Gonadotropin (HMG) Or Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). A Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone (GnRH) antagonist is often used to reduce chances of premature release of eggs. A GnRH agonist injection is then used to trigger the release of eggs which also assists in the process of maturation of the eggs prior to retrieval.
What after egg retrieval process?
You would get back to ‘feeling normal’ by the next day itself. You may experience vaginal soreness, abdominal cramping or spotting for a few days. These are generally mild and can be minimised with normal pain relievers. In a rare case of extreme pain or bloating or even if you have some doubts or fears in your mind, you can reach out to us and our experts will enable you to feel comfortable.
Does it hurt?
During the egg freezing process you will be stimulated with injections that allow your ovaries to produce more eggs. This might leave you feeling bloated and uncomfortable. Generally this is mild and does not require you to take leave from work. When your eggs are ready to be retrieved, you will undergo a less than 15 minute procedure under mild sedation. You will therefore not experience any pain. You can return back to work the next day.
Is there a possibility of mixing your eggs with that of someone else’s?
With our advanced standards , multiple checks and specific systems for lab security, we reduce the chances of human error to extremely low levels. Eggs collected from one individual are assigned RI WITNESS RFID Tags (Lab Witnessing system ) which allows to identify, track, record samples and diminishes risk of human error.
Is Sperm freezing possible?
Sperm freezing is possible in all our centers with an embryology lab
How do you determine the quality of the eggs?
The quality of eggs depends on the age at which you freeze them. Blood tests and ultrasound done during the initial consultation help to estimate the number of eggs that can be expected when your ovaries are stimulated. Yet there are no tests to determine the quality of your eggs. Embryos with no chromosomal defects are a significant feature of a good egg. There are tests available to evaluate embryos for chromosomal abnormalities and thereby improve results.
How many days of leave will be needed for the egg freezing process?
Maybe one day. The day your eggs are retrieved is the only day you might possibly miss work.
What is the age limit for using frozen eggs?
We recommend usage of frozen eggs in women up to age 45.
Can unused eggs be donated?
Our patient support staff will discuss the option of donating your unused eggs in the future. This will require your consent and some tests as well.
What would be the cost of the process if the frozen eggs are used early?
The payment for the procedure and the first year of storage is done in advance. Your storage costs for the succeeding years will be dependent on when you use the eggs stored with us.
What happens in case you don’t use your frozen eggs?
If you choose not to use your frozen eggs, you may have the option to donate or dispose them. You can discuss this with us during the appropriate time.
Will removing your eggs reduce the total number of eggs in your ovaries?
Egg freezing does not reduce the supply of eggs in your ovaries, but rather uses them more efficiently.
Egg freezing does not reduce the supply of eggs in your ovaries, but rather uses them more efficiently.
The egg freezing process may be accompanied by some minimal and transient side effects such as weight gain of 1 to 3 kgs and/or bloating. You might also have some minor lower abdominal discomfort.
Is there a time limit on how long can you freeze your eggs to enable them to be still useful?
Studies have shown that eggs remain quite viable when frozen . Due to lack of long-term data , the general practice is to store eggs for not more than 10 years.
Is it possible to get pregnant immediately after freezing your eggs?
Once you start the process of egg freezing, your ovaries will be stimulated to produce eggs with the help of medications. Intercourse during this time can be uncomfortable. Moreover after the eggs are retrieved, there is a likelihood of some eggs remaining which may make pregnancy possible. Using condoms during intercourse is recommended.
How safe are the medications used in the egg freezing process?
At Indira IVF, our protocols help to reduce minimize the risk of OHSS. Moreover, our experts have experience of over 2 decades in fertility medication usage. In a rare occurrence, it is possible to prevent OHSS by cancelling a cycle too.
What are the health implications of children born from frozen eggs?
Studies have shown that as with natural pregnancy , birth defects are likely with children born from frozen eggs. The risks are therefore the same as that of natural pregnancy.
