Introduction

The in vitro fertilization or IVF is an assisted reproductive technique that involves fertil ization, i.e. the meeting of sperm and egg in the lab, in vitro, which means outside the body of the woman. With advancements in IVF and infertility, paving the way for couples who have faced difficulty in conceiving a child, we, along with our 93rd centre have arrived in Ujjain to take away all your infertility problems and gift you the joy of parenthood, stated Dr. Manju Parmar, the leading IVF specialist at Indira IVF Centre, Ujjain.

When to resort to in vitro fertilization?
When a couple is unsuccessful in conceiving a child even after trying continuously for 12 months, the first step is to see a doctor who can assess the fertility of both men and women. After a health assessment and a physical examination, a series of diagnostic tests may be performed.

When possible, the doctor first treats the infertility of the couple individually in order to allow them to recover their natural fertility.

When it is not possible to cure infertility, initially, simple methods are used in order to start a pregnancy which involves stimulation of ovulation (prescription of drugs to trigger ovulation) or artificial insemination for example.

In vitro fertilization or IVF treatment in Ujjain is only offered to couples who cannot benefit from simpler methods or for whom simpler methods of treatment including artificial insemination have failed earlier.

Who exactly are the perfect candidates for the infertility treatment in Ujjain?
Men and women both can suffer from infertility issues. Their health condition, lifestyle, food habits, injuries, and various other factors can have a huge impact on one’s fertility.

In vitro fertilization is the gold standard treatment for women or men diagnosed with:

  • Absent or blocked fallopian tubes
  • Male infertility (low sperm motility or low sperm count) that could not be cured.
When treatments have failed, IVF is also offered for cases:

  • Of endometriosis.
  • Of unexplained infertility (6% of cases of infertility).
  • Malfunction of the ovaries requiring egg donation.
  • In vitro fertilization can also be done for couples with a genetic defect that can lead to a serious disease, so that an embryo can be chosen that is free from any defect.
  • In vitro fertilization can be used by a couple who could not conceive without an oocyte donation or an embryo donation.
Factors for a successful IVF
The success of in vitro fertilization procedure depends on various factors such as the age and lifestyle of men and women, the cause of infertility, the number of embryos transferred and the number of cycles performed.

Conventional in vitro fertilization

The in vitro fertilization treatment program requires numerous appointments with IVF specialist in Ujjain, who prepares the couple for the technique. The couple should be educated about complex steps such as injecting hormonal drugs, its risks and side effects, as well as the required wait timings by the IVF doctors in Ujjain.

  1. Stimulation of the ovaries

According to the fertility doctors in Ujjain, the first step is to give hormone therapy to the woman, usually a GnRH ( Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone ) agonist in order to put the ovaries to rest, eg. Decapeptyl®, Suprefact®, Enantone® Synarel ®, or Lupron®.

Test tube baby treatment in Ujjain then aims to increase the number of follicles produced by the ovaries and control the time of ovulation. The woman should receive injections of gonadotropins with FSH or LH activity to stimulate the follicles to mature and allow them to produce several oocytes. These include, for example, Puregon®, Gonal F®, Fostimon® Metrodin-HP®, Bravelle®, Humegon® Ménopur® Merional® Repronex® Fertinex® Fertinorm®, Humegon® Ménopur® Merional® Repronex® Fertinex® Fertinorm®, Elonva® or Luvéris®.

When the follicles have grown sufficiently and the hormone levels are adequate, ovulation is triggered by an injection of the hormone HCG ( Human Chorionic Gonadotropin), for example HCG endo 1500®, HCG endo 5000® (Fr), Pregnyl®, Choriomon®, Profasi-HP®, Chorex®, Novarel®, Ovitrelle® Ovidrel® .

Pelvic ultrasound and blood tests are done at each step to assess follicle growth during the IVF treatment in Ujjain.

A woman's ovaries usually produce and release only one mature egg per cycle. While this is sufficient for normal conception, for a successful IVF, ideally more mature eggs should be obtained. It is therefore necessary to stimulate the ovarian activity of the patient more strongly than usual. The drugs administered during in vitro fertilization treatment cause the development of several ovarian follicles, thus increasing the number of eggs, and therefore the chances of obtaining an implantable embryo.

  2. Collection of mature oocytes at IVF hospital in Ujjain

After 32 to 36 hours of hormonal stimulation, the mature oocytes are removed using a small tube and a needle that are inserted into the vagina. This intervention is performed under local or general anesthesia with ultrasound control because it can be painful. The oocytes are then selected in the laboratory at the IVF center in Ujjain.

The semen is collected a few hours before (or thawed the same day), and the sperm are separated from the seminal fluid and stored at 37 ° C.

  3. Fertilization

A few hours after their retrieval, the spermatozoa and the oocytes are placed in contact in a culture dish for several hours at body temperature. The motile spermatozoa come spontaneously in contact with the oocyte without any external help. But only one sperm will fertilize one oocyte. In general, on average, 50% of the oocytes are fertilized.

The fertilized oocytes (or zygotes) begin to multiply. In 24 hours, the zygotes become embryos of 2 to 4 cells.

  4. Embryo transfer

Two to five days after fertilization, one or two embryos are transferred to the woman's uterus. Embryo transfer is a simple and painless procedure carried out by means of a thin and a flexible catheter inserted vaginally into the uterus. The embryo is deposited inside the uterus and it develops there until implantation. After this stage, the woman can usually resume her normal activities.

One or more embryos (called supernumeraries) can also be stored by freezing for later testing. Thereafter, the doctor can give hormonal medical treatment, and of course prescriptions for pregnancy tests to see if the IVF has been effective.

Several cycles of treatment are sometimes necessary before the pregnancy is successful. And unfortunately, some couples do not get pregnant despite several attempts.

Advice before IVF

  • Stop smoking man and woman if you are trying to conceive, because it greatly reduces the chances of getting pregnant.
  • Exercise and strive for a healthy weight. It helps to have good fertility.
  • For women: take vitamin B9 before you become pregnant, as this decreases the risk of malformation in the unborn child.
