Let's know how the process of IVF is carried out at Indira IVF Borivali centre Mumbai by Dr. Kanika Kalyani (Centre Head, Indira
IVF centre in Borivali) Mumbai.
How the process of IVF- ICSI is carried out?
Step 1-
Control and stimulation of the ovaries
Hormones are given every day for 10 to 12 days to stimulate the ovaries and obtain the eggs. Hormonal levels as well as the development of follicles (sacs that contain eggs) in the ovaries are controlled. When the number and size of the follicles are adequate, the day of the collection is fixed, said Dr. Kanika Kalyani (Centre Head, Indira IVF,

Step 2-
Egg Retrieval and In Vitro Fertilization
Eggs are retrieved under deep sedation through follicle puncture and aspiration. The eggs are cultured for a few hours and in the meantime, the sperm is prepared in order to isolate the motile sperm. The eggs are prepared and a sperm is introduced into each of them through the intracytoplasmic sperm injection, stated Dr. Kanika Kalyani (Centre Head, Indira
IVF clinic in Borivali, Mumbai).
Step 3-
Embryo Transfer
The day after the egg retrieval and fertilization, we know how many of them have been fertilized. 2 – 6 days later, the fertilized eggs become embryos, ready to be transferred to the uterus. On the day of transfer, the embryos with the best developmental characteristics are selected, stated Dr. Kanika Kalyani (Centre Head, Indira
IVF clinic in Borivali, Mumbai). In general, 1 or 2 embryos are transferred. The embryos are placed in a fine catheter and introduced into the uterus. No anesthesia is required for the transfer, shared Dr. Kanika Kalyani (Centre Head, Indira IVF

Step 4-
Cryopreservation
Untransferred embryos are frozen with liquid nitrogen. This process is called vitrification. They are identified and stored in the embryo bank. These embryos can be used in subsequent cycles if no pregnancy has occurred in the first attempt. And, if a pregnancy does occur, these can be used to conceive a second baby. The treatment of preparing the uterus for transferring frozen embryos is simpler, since it is not necessary to stimulate the ovaries or to retrieve the eggs, explained Dr. Kanika Kalyani (Centre Head, Indira IVF,
